Neal Analytics announces the availability of StockView, the AI-powered out-of-stock detection solution for medical supplies closets

Neal Analytics, in partnership with Microsoft and Intel, unveils its new out-of-stock detection solution, StockView. StockView leverages Microsoft’s Azure Stack Edge devices and the Azure platform to enable hospitals to automatically detect when medical supplies are out of stock using advanced vision AI at the edge.

Medical personnel needs to focus their time and effort on patient care. Unfortunately, out-of-stock medical supplies can easily disrupt their work and impact patient care.

Today, Neal Analytics announced the availability of its supply closet out-of-stock detection solution: StockView.

Stockout detection solutions usually require existing shelves to be upgraded with sophisticated hardware or, worse, the whole closet to be refitted by budget-draining “smart shelves.” It uses the power of AI at the edge to detect out-of-stock supplies without the need for new or retrofitted shelves.

StockView for healthcare scenarios uses Neal’s advanced vision AI models, already available for retail use cases such as the one demonstrated during Microsoft Ignite conference. The AI models detect missing supplies on shelves by conducting near real-time analysis of a given video stream from a camera pointed at an existing shelf. The solution can then immediately alert the appropriate person, such as the pharmacy manager, about missing items.

StockView leverages the power and flexibility of the Azure platform and Intel CPUs to achieve these results. Its vision AI models are trained and maintained on the Azure Cloud. The containerized models are then deployed at the local facility level on the Intel-powered Microsoft Azure Stack Edge devices. The devices themselves are directly connected to the IP cameras located in the various supply closets.

With this solution, pharmacy managers can ensure items are promptly restocked without requiring medical personnel to report each missing item and therefore waste valuable patient-facing time. It also provides advanced analytics and dashboarding that can be used to improve supply chains on the floor, building, facility, and hospital group-level.

StockView comes with a sample Power App that can be used on computers and mobile devices with ample opportunity to customize as needed. Also, Neal Analytics can help customers build advanced reporting, forecasting, and machine learning-powered solutions to leverage the data from Azure Stack Edge devices in multiple locations.

The video demo below shows an example of how StockView detects out-of-stock items through the default StockView Power App.
