So, what is the Microsoft Cloud Partner Program? More importantly: What does it mean for customers?

Let’s go through the key features of the program. This will help you decipher the different terms and designations and find the best partners for your initiative.

What is the Microsoft Cloud Partner Program?

The Microsoft Cloud Partner Program, the successor to Microsoft Partner Network (MPN), is an ecosystem of companies that partner with Microsoft to deliver innovative customer solutions on the Microsoft clouds.

The Microsoft Cloud Partner Program went live in October in 2022. With this shift, Microsoft simplifies its competencies, provides a more transparent scoring system, and ultimately makes it easier for customers to find the right partner.

What’s new in the Microsoft Cloud Partner Program?

One big change involves decommissioning MPN’s decades old traditional Gold and Silver partner competencies.

A partner’s competency and expertise now fall under one of Microsoft’s six solution areas:

  • Infrastructure (Azure)
  • Data and AI (Azure)
  • Digital and App Innovation (Azure)
  • Business Applications (Dynamics 365, Power Platform)
  • Modern Work (Office 365)

A company obtains the “Solutions Partner” designation for one (or more) of those six areas when it has proven its performance, skill, and customer success within that solution area.

Neal’s 8 Gold competencies from the MPN are now represented within our 3 Solutions Partner designations in the Microsoft Cloud Partner Program.

What are specializations?

Specializations are the new version of MPN’s “advanced specializations.” They now map to the six solution areas, too. Solutions Partner specializations represent a partner’s deep technical expertise within a solution designation.
